While browsing through some APMEX listings, I found this interesting piece: http://www.apmex.com/product/21547/2000-w-1-10-oz-proof-platinum-american-eagle-pr-69-pcgs Interestingly enough the PCGS cert actually shows up on their database as the same coin as pictured. So is this just a really weird photoshop or potentially a fake? Image courtesy of Apmex
That's bizzare. I think of APMEX as a trusted bullion source. I wonder what the story is behind this one.
Hey, even selling bullion gets boring. They just wanted to see if anyone was paying attention. YOU were paying attention. Now where's your free prize?
That is not an NGC holder. And I am not confusing words. Clearly the serial number is in PCGS format, so I am not referring to the label. I mean the plastic itself is not NGC.
I wonder if some lazy and uninformed APMEX employee was tired of taking stock photos and figured - forget it - I'll just photoshop the PCGS label over another stock photo for a coin of the same type. No one will ever pay attention...
Aside from the fact that NCG wouldnt make a label that says PCGS.....also, the spacing around the label is off.
That may very well be possible actually. Because that would account for the spacing irregularity. Good thinking.
Are we talking about the ridges on the side or what I call "the rims" of the slab? It looks very much like a NGC slab to me. It also looks like there might be some sort of shadowing effect on one side from an image editing program.
