I know the coin is not best quality as it's probably very old, it looks worse in real then in pictures. Anyone knows what is it and how old??? I searched everywhere can't find anything like that...if anyone knows anything I would really appreciate any info! Thanks!
it's the opposite way, but heres a link to a possible connection. https://www.lingold.com/napoleon20f...75&from=listeVente&step=&piece_millesime=1868 im going to keep looking.
Yeah it does have a laurel on the head, theres no words or dates on the side with the eagle though...
well, it's napoleon the third, has a laurel so i think it might be a token of some sort, or possibly a fake. wait for some more people to confirm their opinions. thanks, m2
The eagle has one head to the east & one head to the west with septor & globe I don't know the coin but the eagle side is typical for an Austrian Empire coin. It also resembles the Russian and Findland reverses. I'll look in my books tonight. Sorry I'm not much help right now.
That coin/token/medal doesn't make sense to me. The reverse is definitely the crest of Austria or Russia, but Napoleon III never ruled outside of France. His uncle Napoleon I did and that would make a lot more sense.
I know that's why i'm so desperate, is it a fake then? i don't know my dad found it in a shed and it is much worn, it is weird that it has no dates or no other notes, i have checked hundreds of other people collections and google images as well as blogs and forums, found one exactly the same in polish forum, but after i used google translator those people doesn't seem to have any information about it too...that's very confusing...
I don't think its a coin. I will wager that its a token for a board game or something similar. I have seen these before, but for the life of me cannot remember the details of them. Chris
The coin is probably some sort of token marking the alliance between France and Austria to keep Russia in check (perhaps one reason for France's involvement in the Crimean War). The Crimean War started in 1853, one year after Louis Napoleon became "Empereur".
What is the approximate size & what material is it? I never got to look in my books last night. Sorry. Could you post a few better photos (especially of the obverse side). I would suspect that a date would have been below the portrait but I guess that detail is completely gone now.
I doubt there ever was one. SiberianMan could also be right, a counter of some sort also. I simply believe you will never find this in a coin book because its not a coin. I know I read an article about them, but I read so many I cannot place it. I am still thinking a board game, but either way its a piece made after the fact simply using a hodgepodge of designs to make it appear like a coin, but used in a game or as some sort of way of keeping track of a score. Chris
the size is approximately 20mm, i don't know what material, sorry. I'll try to get more pics tonight and light them better. Do you think it could possibly be worth something?
