Wrong, wheat cents were made through 1958. 1959 was the first year of the memorial reverse.

2005 is the earliest dime i have right now but i bet the reeding is different on a 2005 compared to 1981 D so i dont know if this comparison helps. The one on the right seems a little smaller but if you put some grid paper up to them you will see the thickness is the same but the reeding pattern is different.

Every facet on this coin jumps out and shines when you move it around in the lights!
If you look on the lower edge of this scan and see how the rims shines thats what all the devices look like in a good light source and every word becomes perfectly visible/very sharp and shines like gold. ... 017.jpg

My expert advice is spend it, because it's environmentally damaged.

Hey you are the one that started this thread and said you would be cutting coins. this looks like a good example for you to experiment and learn from. by experimenting on coins is a good way to learn about them. either way your coin is only worth a dime because it has been lost under ground for a while or burned then recovered.

this is because the nickel layers got squeezed down over the copper core

if you cut that old corroded one and it may look the same

That dime has a corrosion problem. At the bottom of the torch, you can see little specks of stuff growing on it.
