Defacing currency question?

    When it comes to defacing the money you do have to remember that the government and the law treat coins and paper currency differently and they write the laws covering each separately. Fortunately Billyray quotes both laws for us in the first page of the thread. In short you can do anything you want to the coinage as long as it is not done with fraudulent intent. With the paper currency though it is simply illegal to mutilate it in any way that would render it unfit to be reissued. No fraudulent intent required.

    There is another law that forbids the attaching of an advertisement to a coin and returning the coin to circulation. hat was what got the promoters of the "Fantastic Four and the rise of the Silver Surfer" in trouble with the stickers they put on the quarters.
