There would be FIVE denominations: A dime, a fifth (20 cent piece, because we would also eliminate the quarter and bring the fifth back in its place, enabling us to get rid of the nickel), a half dollar, a $1 coin, and a $2 coin. ;)

(Maybe even a $5 coin as well. )

I'd have to say Drago, that the vending machine companies would be pulling their hair out in this scenario!!!

Move the decimal point. The cent and nickel remain viable (less to mint than face value) while reducing the currency by 90% which makes the dollar coin savings look like a drop in the bucket. The money will have 10 times the purchasing power, so in essence, all things will remain equal.

You will also get your $1.00 coin (dime), $2.50 coin (quarter), and $5.00 coin (half dollar). Cokes and candy bars will cost a dime instead of a dollar, and any vending machine should be able to re-price without being sent to the shop.

I didn't say there was no self interest involved for us coin collectors
