Here is a list of coins I have found the dealer is selling bags full of ancient silver and gold. The silver is real on the coins but are they 100% authentic coins?

Dear fellow coin lovers. I am new to ancient coins and don’t have much knowledge yet. So any expertise in this area will be awesome!

Some of the coins are only from 1800 - 1900s seller has many doubles. Price is like 10$ Canadian. If I buy 100.

Here is some pictures, I will add more pics of the coins to each reply since this post will not allow me more then 10 at a time:)

Thanks in advance for your time & God Bless!

I'd be starting with the presumption that ALL ARE FAKE, made in China
I have been caught myself by the idea that just because you have gone to a distant land, the people have no idea of the value of things.
Generally they have a very good idea and in fact usually overprice anything worth having.

How did you establish the silver coins were silver?

Dealers who have bags of stuff only have bags of stuff that no one wants, or material that sells for very low prices. They do not have bags of treasure they are happy to sell to the first passing stranger.

I think the British India rupees look a little dodgy, but I am no expert in this series. I am sure you will get more and better advice but my advice is to walk away.

PS. It is possible that India has some sort of restriction on the export of genuine old coins, I do not know but it might be worth checking.

I too am no expert but agree that the rupees caught my eye as appearing fake. The lettering and details on the reverse of the 1917 rupee in particular look wrong and have the distinct appearance of a Chinese counterfeit.

I can't speak to the rest of the coins here, but I would be very suspicious of them.

I can't say anything about the ancients but I have bought the Rupees and they look absolutely too clean, too well struck, the edges of the letters and devices are too sharp. Remember, these 1917 coins are supposed to be 100 years old. Do they look that old to anyone? Not unless they've been hidden away in the "Temple of Doom" for the past hundred years. Hardly.

We can't test gold or silver over the internet, so whether or not the metal is real, I would agree with the others that the coins themselves are fakes.

Even the last pic, the "gold" Fanam, looks like brass in that pic, but who can really tell over the internet.

As for any real Rupees, the Indian people who emigrate to the U.S. , England, etc. and get a good job and start having some disposable income, want to buy/invest in something that reminds them of home, thus the older British Empire era silver Rupees are desirable for them and are appreciating in value because of that demand.
I try to buy them but because of that demand they are very hard to get at anywhere near melt, regardless of condition.

Now is a good time to be buying and selling those real Rupee coins.

These are not ancients....How can Queen Elizabeths ( who is still living ) father be classed as ancient

The other king is KGV...I buy india rupees etc for silver price and melt them as they are so common .

technically the coin on the ring is damaged and has no numismatic value. Scrap metal or a talking piece only...

I personally like buying the tubs and bags of rubbish that dealers dont want as they range to be less than a nickel per coin and i can recover a good 50c to $1 return each..... The top end will always stay too expensive for the new generations entering our hobby,

The coin under the picture of the 1941 and 1917 ruppee loos as it it has some soldering on the side....
