Today David Lawrence Rare coins tweeted that their auction is up on ebay, and going until March 25, 2012. With over a million dollars in lincoln cents. Thought some people here would like to check it out, if they haven't already.
Nobody has posted this yet ? Ya know, I'm more than a little surprised that nobody has posted this yet. Especially with as many Lincoln collectors as we have on the forum. http://stores.ebay.com/David-Lawrence-Rare-Coins/Presidential-Cent-Collection-/_i.html?rt=nc&_fsub=2998011013&_sid=8129423&_trksid=p4634.c0.m14.l1513&_pgn=1
I agree Doug. With that "in bold print" front line advertisement on the main page, you would think there would be some buzz going on in these threads.
What am I missing here? So people are paying $100 or more for a one year old cent minted in the tens of billions and only graded in the mid MS range. Did I look in the wrong place? I thought David sold "rare coins". Guy
Don`t mean to be nosy but who would be buying these coins, imagine $26,000 on one coin???? I do understand that some of these are the finest coins of that date or really rare but still, I thought there was a recession!
seriously, I have a bank roll of 2010 phili cents, i am fairly sure some of them would grade 66rd, does that mean the roll is worth 10K!!! http://www.ebay.com/itm/2010-1c-PCG...24?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item27c4c7f08c Is this a sign the TPGers have jumped the shark, or is this the high water mark for coin prices...
The biggest shocker for me so far?? Are the 05 and 06 MS70 satin finish pieces going for over $800 at the moment!
Little off topic but there is no longer a recession and even then it affected only the middle class, most of the collectors who are going after this are fairly wealthy and current trend has been that most of luxury/expensive items in auctions have done very well (nearly as good 2001). Thanks in part to booming stock market.
Shows the collector type that buys over on e-bay. Mindless bidiots buying into the hype and hairsplitting of grades on otherwise common (as grains of sand) coins. Don't get me wrong. Ebay can be a wonderful place to buy coins but lately (it seems to me) stuff has been selling for way more than it should be.
True. Ebay, with the exception of a few sellers, is quickly becoming less of a source for me. Way too many either junk slugs or way overpriced BIN or starting bids. I am not one to talk about "the good old days" but Ebay is fast becoming obsolete to me. Most of the prices for decent coins are higher than buying directly from respected dealer, with a guarantee. Ebay in the last years seems to view itself as a Cadillac seller with Chevy service.
Only if you (a) get them graded and (b) list them on ebay. Combination of bidiots and registry set owners wanting the best. Man - most of those are already over what heritage has sold some for. Since I do not collect them I do not know how tough some of those dates are. I do know everything I collect has BIN prices and are not auctions. Then again their pictures are lousy.
I am not interested in the modern stuff. But many of the earliest dates are enticing. Unfortunately some newbie with a zero ebay rating has pushed up the prices on dozens. I hope DLRC is looking into it. I suppose there is a small chance it is legit and this collector has a quarter million to spend. But I sort of doubt it. I don't think I'll play.
