True. I will warn whoever tries the vinegar/hydrogen peroxide mix will find the coins easy to read at first, then less clear later. I can no longer read the 1929, as when I lightly wiped it the date virtually disappeared as well. To me, these coins are now simply scrap silver (which they basically were before).
That may be why TPGs refuse to slab "restored-date" silver. (At least the member who restored more than one 1923-S quarter couldn't get ICG to slab them.) If I ever get around to trying this experiment myself, and I restore a common date, I'll try leaving it longer and see whether the date gets stronger or disappears again. I've often thought that photographic techniques might work to "fix" a restored date onto a silver coin -- but that would presumably also let you "print" whatever date you want, rendering the technique useless for anything other than satisfying curiosity. Maybe that's just as well.
