I am a newbie coin collector. I have never posted here before and i am hoping to get some help. It almost appears as if the date is stamped in. Any ideas?

It's as paddy says and the die used to create this coin and it's effects should have been retired long before this happened. But then again, it's from Philly where they use their dies to the bitter end.

    As mentioned above, struck from
    worn or overused dies....
....very common on our newer dimes
    and National Parks quarters.

Cool find, but unfortunately it isn't worth anything. Even though I know it has no additional value, I would keep it if I found it in change. However, no big deal if you spend it.
