    Fortunately it is easier nowadays.:)
    "The Malta pound, which was renamed Maltese lira (Lm) in 1983, was retained as the currency unit. This was divided into 100 cents, and the 1 cent into 10 mils." http://www.centralbankmalta.com/site/currency1f.html

    They stopped making those mil(s) coins in the early 80s. But the annual collector sets still have one mils denomination; this year's set has a 5 mils piece ...

    Christian,the Maltese currency is still known as the Pound in English.Although the 2,3,& 5 Mils ceased to be struck as a regular coin in 1982,they are still legal tender.There was never a 1 Mil coin from Malta,but there was a 1 Mil coin that was struck in 1963 for Cyprus though.

    May well be so; I just quoted what the Maltese central bank writes about the 1983 (pound -> lira) name change. And yes, in Cyprus there was a 1 mil coin, minted in the early 1960s and early 70s. Before 1950 they even had denominations like 4 1/2, 9 and 18 piastres ... :rolleyes:
