GTFO, seriously? OK I am going to turn that album into a toning factory in that case, just keep my "keeper" coins in their rolls or mint pacakaging!

You know what kills me about people who acknowledge and pay a premium for toning?
Toning is an ongoing process, so maybe another year down the road the coin wont look as attractive as they bought it.
    I mean, I just don't get it.

Once a coin is removed from it's toning source (eg album, govt packaging, canvas bag) the toning is all but stopped. With proper storage you can arrest the toning process even further and you will not see any appreciable change in the appearance of the coin.

I have toned coins that I have owned for almost ten years and they look the same today as when I bought them. If you purchase a graded coin that continues to tone, it almost certain that the coin is AT and the chemical applied to the coin in the doctoring process was not completely eliminated from the surface of the coin.

Yep. And, if I want to stop (really slow down) the toning, I put it in an Air-Tite.

    ISYN (I sh*t you not)

Some of these tone guys are koo koo for cocoa puffs.

A nice toned proof Kennedy makes them drool as they open their wallets.

I disagree with your practice. As do many on this forum.

$48, he openly admitted to Artificially toneing coins, and then said he was going to donut again to sell them for more money. According to my definition he fits under the term "coin doctor".
Unless I'm missing some sarcasm somewhere. (which admittably is difficult to sense online....)

I understand your point, but I guess I am wondering if leaving your coins in an album is really AT? I assume he isn't putting any chemicals on it, just letting a natural phenomenon happen. If anything, isn't this more like accelerated natural toning if this is what really happens anyway? Is this coin when finished really any different from a NT coin? Understand, I am not defending anything, I am just asking questions.

This is why I've been going all Intercept Shield for my albums.

Here's the first page of my type set:

It could just be the new cents the mint produced. It could be a combination of the the temp and humidity changes along with the materials in the album and in the coins themselves.

I'd say that being left out in living quarters, in a generally non-humidity controlled environment is less than desirable. But then again, I've got a plain jane state quarters album filled with many MS, untouched, state quarters that has been sitting out in the open above my computer for a couple years. It gets indirect sunlight every day the sun's shining and they're as good as the day I put them in there.

I resent your acusation there Snazzy. I NEVER admitted to artifically toning any coins. See if you can follow along:

    A) Many people choose to put coins in albums
    B) Albums have been known to tone coins
    C) Some folks pay more for toned coins.

    A+B=C

NATURE is toning my coins just as it has been for all collectors since the invention of albums.

    Your definition is flawed.

I admit to putting coins in albums (guilty) and hoping and praying to the good Lord that they are blessed with some beautiful tones. Toning is not guaranteed and it's also not always pretty.

It's ok ..you don't have to back peddle just for asking a simple question but the question you ask is as old as time. This site is filled with threads discussing what is AT vs NT and no one really knows. All I know is that I put my coins in albums and let nature do it's thing.

There are no chemicals, no baking, no taco bell napkins. Just coins in a coin album as the hobby has allowed for a hundred years or more.

Let those who disagree have their say. Their words fall on my deaf ears though. I sleep well at night with a clear conscience and a good heart knowing that I have done nothing to be ashamed of.

That really just comes down to personal opinion. For me, the way I view AT coins, is not necesarily the process involved in toning the coin, but the motive behind it. If a seller is toning coins in an oven, napkin, windowsill, or folder with the INTENT to sell the coin for a profit as TONED then IMO that is morally wrong.

Please, don't try and talk to me like I'm a kid Andrew.
See my definition above. We have had this discussion here on cointalk, and many other forums for that matter, many many times as to what classifies a coin as AT'd. And we have never come to a conclusion as to how to define AT.
If a coin will look the same when it leaves a taco bell napkin, as to when it left the oven, as to when it left the folder you put it in to tone it... Then to me it doesn't matter where it came from.. your MOTIVE was to tone it.. Artificially at that.

Oh yeah, I saw "your" definition. Thankfully, it's not "THE" definition or my definition so atleast you have had the opportunity to say your piece.

I just don't agree with you and I don't like to be insulted so when you made me out to be some kind of thief, I took offense so yeah, I had to dumb things down a bit to make a point. Those are the breaks.

update, I decided to let them sit and see exactly what would happen out of curiosity more than anything. The top right 2009 is almost completely covered, the one below it has developed a spot where there wasn't one before behind abes head.
