Damaged -1977 cent metal composition?

    • I would like to know metal composition for this coin because of the color variations and the "LIBERTY " stain. Thanks in advance for all replies 20200624_231401.jpg

    No one can tell the metal composition of a coin from looking at a photo . It looks like the cent has been cleaned with a sand blaster

    The US Mint produced 1977 Lincoln cents composed of .950 copper and .050 tin & zinc. Your coin was probably coated with some silvery substance, a common school science experiment.

    It's only a guess but it could be a reaction to some chemical. Wait for some expert opinions.
