This was one of only 2 coins in the big bunch of coinstar rejects that I got on Friday that included the ancient Roman coin from emperor Claudius II. Normally, I would toss it to the side as just being damaged, but this one looks a bit different since the area affected is the exact right size to fit the arc/edge of another planchet in it. I can't determine it one way or another. What do you all think?
Lol Thanks for the non-answer... Perhaps you should eat dinner first and then come back to help me out buddy
Maybe that's a vote of confidence from @paddyman98, who is, after all, an error coin collector? I dunno. It could be damage, or then again, there's the off chance that it could just be the very slightest evidence of a second strike. I'll defer to those with more experience.
If it is a minor error, then... wow. Crazy enough that you first of all found an ancient coin in those CoinStar rejects. Now this. Could be icing on the cake.
The arc appears to be the same, but why is there a rim on the obverse and an dark ring too far away to be a collar mark? Also the dark toning that appears as a backwards B? I’m in the PMD camp unless better pictures.
The darkness is just schmutz like on the rest of the obverse. The reason I didn't discount it off hand as being PMD is because of another coin I found awhile back. Obviously this one is larger but still...
You're not supposed to sit on the fence pole...That will make ANYONE uncomfortable. I'm still not sure on this one.
