A while back, I got gas at a local gas station. When I paid him, I got a Kennedy Half Dollar in the change. I almost told him he should save it, Almost.... Nothing fancy coin, but I like Kennedy. I was in the 11th grade history class when the principal announced that the President had been shot. We got a furlough from school for a few days, to watch all the action. My father was stationed at Fort Benning and we lived in Columbus, GA. The action in the south was not the best. Some students in my class cheered when it was announced. I was thrilled when President Kennedy announced that NASA would be flying to the moon. I was stationed at Fort Bragg, when NASA landed 3 heroes on the moon. I only hope that I will be alive when NASA would send some more heroes to Mars. I saw every Kennedy I find or get into change.
First of all thank you and your father for your service. Well, I enjoyed finding these and well if I post all some would maybe tell me come onnn lol. I have two 64s and 67. I was born in 1963. So I don’t remember but over there years learning history etc. I’m putting them in an album for my son to have for his little one one day. They are expecting in June. My son loves history and I know he will enjoy them. That’s odd you got one in change. I ask a cashier now and then for halves, Susan B, etc. and they look at me like I’m crazy lol. Thank you for your story and again thank you for your service.
