Just curious, does anyone know why the rim sometimes is wider than the coin itself?
I have seen this a few times...Wondering how that could happen?

I think those are called "dryer coins"

Yes, there are some instances where a coin might be deformed from being caught in a dryer. Most often, the entire coin is deformed, not just the rim.

I believe that this coin has been "spooned". It is a process often used by people who make coin rings by using the back of a spoon and tapping the edge to expand it. If you want, you can Google "spooned" to see images of various coins.
