There never should have been a gold Kennedy. Doesn't fit with the series. Just a money-grab by the mint.
Coin World, 9/15/2014, reports that 613 more gold Kennedy Halves were graded at the show than were sold by the mint. PCGS didn’t require proof of purchase at the show.
As of 8/10, the mint reported Gold Kennedy sales of 62,341. As of 8/17, the mint reported Gold Kennedy sales of 63,521. As of 8/24, the mint reported Gold Kennedy sales of 63,388. As of 8/31, the mint reported Gold Kennedy sales of 64,305. As of 9/07, the mint reported Gold Kennedy sales of 63,927.
I think if they stay under 75k we will all be good. Might be a great time to pick up some 70s at $1350 on eBay
will it be the mint kill this issue. first they announced 40,000 already produced. then the first few days. collectors already cleared all and even surpassed the 40,000. then another 35,000 were ready. total 75,000. current sales reached 63,000 more or less. i think the mint will not dare to produce more then 75,000. and it will continue to sell them until all 75,000 out. i estimate it should sell out by next december, 2015. if you compare kennedy gold with current first spouse issue. sold around one to two thousand coins per issue. which one you would like to buy.
Except these are only on sale until the end of DEC 2014 and I bet they barely get to 70k sold. The spouse coins are a huge joke imo, except for Elenor Roosevelt I could give two craps about presidential spouses lol.
I just received my issue of Coin World. They have a cover story about graded ANA Gold Kennedy Half Dollars. The number reported by the mint does not jive with the number graded. It seems ANACS and NGC required proof of purchase to get ANA labels, but PCGS did not. It now seems as though some of these PCGS ANA coins were overnight shipped to Chicago from other sources and given ANA labels by PCGS. PCGS ANA labeled coins might never be worth as much as the others are for this issue.

I managed to score a pr70 with a Chicago label for $1450. Only time will tell but I think it was a good buy.

I picked up an ANA pr70 ngc kennedy for $13,75 on ebay. Low feedback seller... hopefully he ships! I think that will be a winner.
