Hey, do me a big favor there 9ball. Stop replying to my posts! That will save us both a lot of problems!
So you're both saying the anomaly coming off the rim and connecting to one of those dots is a die chip?
Yes. But when that chip is connected to the rim, we call it a "cud." Didn't SPP weigh in on this one, here or elsewhere? His opinion would be definitive to me, if he did.
Because it's so tiny, I'm good with calling it a cud or a chip. Nice image. The two other chips are a bit cool. It would be fun to find a coin where they advanced on into the rim.
I would call it a chip due to the size and the fact that there are similar (but smaller) chips along the rim at 3, 6, and 8 o'clock as well. Could you technically call it a cud and be correct? Probably; but when I think of a cud I picture something more like this:
SPP-Ottawa. He's a member here and elsewhere. He's Canadian, and in the areas where he expresses expertise he's Canada's equivalent of Mike Diamond. Although yours is a British issue, Canadian coinage uses very similar design and he'd be well-versed in the foibles of beaded-rim dies. Agreed; my last was more stirring the pot than anything else. Hence, the smiley.
