    Crispina AE Sestertius, 178-191 AD, 24.4g, 31mm

OBV: CRISPINA AVGVSTA, Draped bust right.

REV: VENVS FELIX, Venus seated left holding Victory & sceptre.

    REF: RIC 673, Cohen 40, BMC 424

Crispina was the daughter of Gaius Bruttius Praesens and his wife Valeria. Her family came from Volceii, Luciania, Italy. Crispina was more than likely raised in Rome or Voceii. Crispina was approximately 14 years old when she was married to Commodus when he was 16 in 178 AD. She never had any children and was later exiled to the island Capri off the cost of Campania, Italy where she was executed at the age of 26 due to being accused of adultery in 191 AD.

This coin was a gift from Santa here on this forum and I do appreciate it for real. I was initially going to pay for it, but Santa decided to give it to me and I am happy about that. No, I ain't part of the secret Santa this year but I choose to call this friend here Santa Claus. lol I hope that he doesn't mind.

This coin fills a slot in my Roman Ruler set collection which brings me up to 108. Wow, never thought I'd make it this far!!

Worn for sure. The Romans made coins to last during that time.

Poor girl. I bet her only crime was being married to a monster.

    NIce !!!

It's a bit worn, but the CRISPINA is quite clear and a bit better than one I think I have (acquired decades ago)...I'll try to photograph it and post---although it may be of one of the other ladies, since it was purchased merely as 'Sestertius from the Early Empire---a lot group of several.

    Very NICE Mat and Steve!!!

EDIT: Well, they are almost CERTAINLY Faustina so I'll have to pass on posting a photo.

Crispina, although style isn't always at its best (at least for silver), is a lady to have. Good catch Gil
Steve-s and Mat's are quite nice too, with a very nice style

    My only Crispina
