They want to preserve the box since it's an artifact, but yeah, it's taking a while. The interesting thing is that the box does not match the dimensions given in the historical documents and it's lead, not copper. We'll see if it's the "real" time capsule!

Well, I let it play for half an hour or so, but now I've got to take my laptop to a service appointment. :(

i'm surprised at how much trouble they are having uncrimping a thin lead seal.

There is a coin stuck to a book they pulled out.

My guess is a seated liberty half.

3 books, an envelope, and a coin stuck to a book. The 1875 almanac is not on the list published in the Richmond Dispatch, and there's none of the many other items. I wonder if this is a second time capsule.

Edit - a reporter looked up one of the other books and it was published in 1889, so this appears to not be the original 1887 time capsule. Interesting.

The coin with the book appears to be a Great Britain Victoria Jubilee Shilling.

    :)

Sure looks like it. Interesting choice. The book appears to be “The Huguenot Lovers: A Tale of the Old Dominion” by Collinson Pierrepont Edwards Burgwyn. The author is buried in a Richmond cemetery, so that connection is clear, but a British coin?

We'll see but I think @willieboyd2 is correct. My avatar is a Canadian 50c so not that.

Looks very similar to the discovery coin but without better pictures not 100% certain,if only the book coin actually was that nice.
