If it's 10 cents on the dollar. Sure why not.
    What are we looking at?

Not quite $0.10 on the dollar, but the gold is 0.24 oz by itself.

I'd do it! That gold coin is worth the $600 alone, not counting the silver dollar.

    As of 9:32 (11/11), melt is $658.98. ;)

Hopefully it has been tested with an XRF. When I buy gold pieces similar to those, but smaller, I make sure to see them test as gold.

This is Craigslist. It is in the OGP and has the brochure, beyond that, I don't know. Beyond that, the seller is offering a 1978 mint set, a 1972 Prestige proof set and a 1971 proof set...quite a hodge podge...

I’d put my money into a pre 1933 Gold US minted coin.

I'm not crazy about the Olympic coins.
If you are seriously interested have the seller throw in all the random proof/Prestige sets in with the offer.
Gold is still high so you want a cushion just in case...it's a buyers market on those type of coins.

I could be wrong, but didn't the Prestige Proof Sets start in something like 1983?

    Google says you are correct...
Prestige Proof Sets were issued by the U.S. Mint from 1983 to 1997, with the exception of 1985, when no set was issued.

This is one time where gold for below spot doesn't seem too suspicious. The seller probably saw an old price for the coin & might even expect some haggle. I'd probably not go out of my way to get the deal, but it's worth it if you have the time.

I'd try to look into what the seller's been doing and what else is listed for sale. I've used Craigslist but there's a disproportionately high number of scammers on there now who may just be seeing who contacts them to become aware of you. It very well could be just somebody looking to sell quick but most people don't use CL anymore and prefer to use FB marketplace instead. It's a nice deal if real. Best of luck.

Yeah, it could be stolen, or appropriated from dad's collection or a lot of other things. I don't know what this issued at, but it was probably less than $600, so if they are the original purchaser, they will still make money. The fact that they have some other coins lends it a bit of credibility. I will meet them at a bank tomorrow.

Meeting at a bank is smart. I would probe them about how they obtained the set and see if you detect any dishonesty. Appearance might be a clue too - some old collector geezer versus a punk kid (although you can't judge entirely on that, obviously). Ask for ID and take a picture of it perhaps. I've encountered some shady people dealing with craigslist.

Are you considering it to flip or to hold? My hunch is that gold is on the way back to February prices - $2000-2100. Might not be such a good deal 6 months from now.
