I would hope so! Even in cleaned condition I was surprised to see this coin still has maintained a higher sale price in completed auctions. I would assume that is due largely to the low mintage.
Very hard coin to find in any grade. Extremely underrated other than the 76 cc is by far the rarest 20 cent piece in business strike the 75 cc while popular is common and the 75 p is tougher but available
That certainly helps, the toning helps it as well. It's a lot easier to overlook some flaws with pleasing hard to find toning then if it was just blast white
For whatever reason cleaned coins just really rub me the wrong way (no pun intended). The toning will keep this one in the collection for sure, but the hairlines are distracting.
What I'm really looking for is a proof 20c. I had the opportunity to buy a similarly toned one that was a pr62 for 1720, and I passed because I really try not to pay premiums for toning....
I know the feeling. I really like coins with original skin. Tho the toning is pretty on it. For my type set a couple years ago bought a totally original flawless au 58 1876 20 cent that got a green cac after I bought it. Is got the surfaces of a 64 with the slightest rub
Yeah a toned proof would be nice especially a 77 or 78. I've thought about it but I'd rather spend my money on other coins and keep my nice original au
Definitely hold onto that au58, heritage has sold so few that actually look the way you are describing it. Do you happen to have a photo? Would love to see it
They're kind of hit or miss for me. The badly brushed ones I am not really a fan but the old cleaned and retoned ones usually don't bother me that much if they are pleasing to the eye. With that said on more expensive issues I would usually rather have a lightly cleaned higher grade with meat left on it then a barely recognizable dog for similar money
I have a Busty I bought as reverse improperly cleaned that I kept in a manila envelope to get some color close to yours . But with the hairlines that are visible at certain angles I'd be upset if the tpgs ever gave it a straight grade . Still I love the coin and I like yours , but they both will always be cleaned coins unless I wear it down as a pocket piece .
