    Got these for Christmas.
    First one is a zinc cent planchet IMG_0002 (2).JPG IMG_0003_1 (2).JPG
The second one is a dime planchet.
Question how does one tell besides an xrf if the planchet is silver or clad?
Does the cladding show up after strike?

Look at any clad dime, quarter or half dollar.

You'll see the copper core centered in the reeded edge.

    (same for Sacs/Pres. dollars)

I know what they look like after struck.
Just didn't know if the cladding was visible pre strike?

Thanks Fred I just did a search and noticed that the cladding is visible on unstruck planchets.

You should be able to tell by the weight. If those numbers don't make sense, check the values for Canadian dimes. I believe most (all??) post 1967/68 dimes had high nickel content or Stainless Steel for newer issues and should be magnetic

Found my scale and tried the tissue paper trick, although I had to use T.P.
The planchet weighs 2.6g and is not attracted to a magnet.

Did my own homework with your help, like I used to encourage others.;)
Canadian dimes post 1968 -1.75g could be as heavy as 2.33g
    67-68 weight 1.16g
    pre 67 1.86
All of these are out of range.

Clad US dime - 2.26g out of range

    Silver Dime 2.67g

Planchet left and clad dime right.

    Thanks Guys appreciate the help.
Looks like I have a silver dime Planchet with upset rim (type 2)

Paddy what kind of value dose this have?
I looked at Fred site and was unable to find a price for it?
    Anyone have a reliable link?
