I found this penny, I was wondering if anyone on CT is familiar with the symbol on it, I'd think it has something to do with the freemasons. Thanks in advance for any feedback
Those were my initial thoughts too. I'm curious what the G signifies, if anything. Here's a reverse shot
My granddad was a Mason and had a ring. In keeping with the secrecy of the organization, I asked him what the G on his ring stood for. "Goat," would always be his reply.
Where's the Penny?.. Oh you meant the CENT Just kidding.. That's actually the most modern counterstamped Cent I think I have ever seen. Yes that is the symbol of the Freemasons. I work near the Freemasons Hall here in NYC. 23rd Street and 6th Ave and see that symbol all the time. Thanks for sharing
Ya first one I've personally come across, figure their not worth anything, I'll hold onto it regardless though, pretty neat coin.
It's in the realm of "novelty coins". Do a search on Google and you'll see what I mean. New, common and it will cost you more to buy it than what you'll ever get back but they are fun to collect!
I've been thinking of buying a blank cent album and putting errors, counterstamps, foreign coin of similar size and anything else I find in circ that's out of the ordinary inside it. So this would be a good addition
I've got a bunch of these with the Mason's emblem on the cent and the dime. They were given to me by a retired employee of the Philadelphia Mint. He made the punch & die for it. Chris
I was able to find my old photo of a 1995 dime with the Shriners emblem on it. It, too, was made by the retired Mint employee. Chris
Here is a version I found Here is some of my counter stamped cents, that I feed into the change stream. Here is another common one Here is stamping set up Another one that is common, Another popular series is the state stamped cents, small drawings of the state with it's initials, I have one state but the photo is currently in hiding!
Short story...... My idea of a hot date was sitting at the kitchen table on a Saturday afternoon sorting through $50 bags of cents for wheats and whatever with my girlfriend. One day she smiles slyly and hands me a coin. It's a current year 1973 D with the "heart" encompassing "I love you". The date was Feb 14th. Valentine's Day. I am still married to her.
I have a couple "low-priority" Danscos that I've been building sets in, and I've decided that when I buy key dates (which I haven't) like the 09-S VDB cent, 16-D dime, and a few others that belong in slabs, I'd find myself an altered one, counterstamp it with the serial number of the slab, and put it in my Dansco.
