Really ? Well the coin in the picture certainly has been. Makes me wonder if this is a case of you don't receive the coin in the picture.

Just because he says he does not have a scale handy, does not mean he is trying to hide something or that the coin is counterfeit. I can say with an extremely high level of confidence that the coin pictured is real. I am more concerned about whether or not the buyer receives the coin pictured.

That's why I didn't bid on it. I felt that the coin pictured was in a slab.

What does that have to do with whether the coin to be delivered is real?
    My point, exactly.

That does happen way to often. Negative feed backs don't mean much. Many, many people just don't want to get involved and positive feedbacks can be put in by friends, relative, etc. My son does that.

    Final price= $454.
If it is an AU, way overpaid.
if an Unc: a real steal.

If the coin received is not the one pictured, that will really be a steal!

Since the slab is not pictured, I would be afraid of the bait-and-switch. The coin pictured really looks good to me.

Coin could also be in a white core Coin World shell. They use the same cores except they don't have the ANACS logo on the corner, which doesn't show in the picture.

He is advertising the coin as,
1834 Capped Busted Half Dollar Uncirculated

    Uncirculated, Investment Quality

That would make it around 800.00 in MS-60

I'm sure he is not that stupid

I agree with zaneman and Frank, the coin is authentic! You would never get such a stong strike with such crisp details if the coin was a counterfeit or a restrike. The coin appears to be of a high grade and I would say at least an MS-63 but may go much higher. I have seen a lot of Mint State examples of this Date and other Bust Halfs but don't often see such great detail on the Stars, Miss Liberty and the Eagle that this coin has! The toning, the holder and the mediocre pictures mask a truly beautiful Bust Half with lots of Mint luster!

I believe that the Seller cut their' own throat with the auction by having a low Feedback rating, not offering much information about the coin, not having better pics and not having a Reserve. If I would have been bidding on the coin, I would have inquired about the holder in which it resides (good catch and point Doug), would have copied and pasted the pics of the coin to my PC in case of a bait and switch and required that the coin be shipped by Registered Mail.

MS 63 would make it over 2,000 in the red book

I really think that the buyer will not get the coin that was pictured.
