You certainly are out of touch with economic principles. Many countries allow us to store gold for them but we have been denying their requests to visibly observe the fact that their gold is there. The US dollar used to be based on the gold standard however since that was removed by Richard Nixon we have nothing to stand behind our paper currency accept the good reputation of the United States monetary system. The idea of our inability to pay our $19 Trillion debt is causing great concern amongst those countries. That plus the fact that another country can produce bogus $100 bills greatly undermines our ability to stand behind the dollar and our ability to pay our debts. If you think the gold reserves in Fort Knox has nothing to do with the stability of the US dollar then you are totally economically ignorant.
If your theory is correct why doesn't NK just take the $1,000,000 of counterfeit money that we can barely identify as fake and buy the goods with them rather than trade them to us and lose $250,000 for every million? Their goal is to undermine the US economy not line their pockets or they would keep the million bucks. The same concept applies with the fake gold coins and coin holders, all done to create uncertainty about the stability of the US economy. I have an economics major from the University of Wisconsin the introduction of cryptocurrency and the joint venture of the USSR and China to hoard gold and create a new world Economy based on their currency is going to eventually cause the collapse of the US dollar.
However getting back to the original issue you're saying that a country that can successfully counterfeit PERFECT $100 bills cannot reproduce something as simple as a PCGS coin holder? Only someone profiting from the sale of coins and coin holders would have cause to even suggest that the inability to reproduce that lousy plastic coin holder exists.
    KURT:
Sorry but your self proclaimed economics wisdom is GREATLY WARPED. the US Dollar is on the verge of being abandoned by 23 countries that use it as their trade base. The fact that the USA may be unable to pay our $19 trillion debt, because we possibly have nothing to pay it with is certainly causing great concern amongst our debt holders. The Gold standard was abandoned by Nixon to prevent the drain of Gold Bullion by countries who were collecting US dollars for all their transactions then bringing those bills and demanding gold for them. Paper money backed by nothing but promises and good intentions is the first step to economic failure. The skyrocketing intrest in Criptocurrencies should be the first clue that worthless paper currency is headed for the incinerator. So much so that many if not most cripto-exchanges wont accept US currency as a purchasing agent. Oh yes there are a great number of economic geniuses who preach the safety of the US $ BUT trends would indicate otherwise. Bury your head in the sand with many others thats your constitutional right but the practice of randomly printing more money to cover the wasteful spending of our corrupt pompus pathetic overpaid political leaders are driving the US bus into the economic quicksand. There are two viewpoint on this Kurt the accurate one and yours.
Dont need to, l believe it was around 2009. Still took a great deal of skill and determination to accomplish.

The old NGC fatty slabs were the easiest to swap coins in. The edgea could be cut with a dremel, then glued back together with crazy glue. I knew a pocket dealer that had NGC coins that I had sold him, but the coin inside didn't match the grade shown. His way of increasing his profit margin.

Funny, the colleges that granted me my B.A and M.A. in economics would disagree with you. Perhaps U. of Wisconsin should stick to Agriculture.

Do you have ANY EARTHLY IDEA how many mealy-mouthed say-nothing words and phrases you crammed into JUST ONE POST?!?!?!?

    "on the verge"
    "may be unable"
"skyrocketing intrest (sic) in Criptocurrencies (sic)" [Gosh, the English department at Madison must be SO proud!]
"trends" (the most mealy-mouthed one of all)

I look at ONE THING to determine the dollar's strength first and foremost - Is there any shortage of worldwide subscribers to U.S. sovereign debt instruments? In other words, do we have to pay out-the-wazoo interest on our debts at issue? The answer is not just "no", it's "[word not allowed on CT] NO!!!" The world economy WANTS ALL THE US SOVEREIGN DEBT IT CAN GET ITS HANDS ON! And this EVEN THOUGH the Federal Reserve Board Open Market Committee is now UNWINDING its portfolio grown so huge under QE. The world can't get enough of US securities.

    Go milk a cow, huh?

I am known as a more than worthy debate opponent many daring not to even attempt. I seldom state a fact without resourcing all available data. I'm definitely not up on old collectible and rare coins as he is but if he wants to talk economics, counterfeiting and/or politics l challenge him to bring It on and hope he can take a punch! l get guilt trips when beating up criples. And I should probably type more than count on speech to written if he's a "grammer slammer"

Supernotes have been around since at minimum the early to mid 80s. This is nothing new.

It doesn't and if your degree taught you that is where the value of the dollar comes from you should ask for a refund.

I guess they didn't have a class about money laundering, or how to get around international sanctions. Or how about because the sellers know they're bogus and aren't going to accept them for face value. It's not rocket science figuring out what they're using them for.

Lol. North Korea trying to undermine the US economy is like a toddler trying to beat Mike Stanton in a home run derby.

That's not even remotely close to what it's backed by.

Wrong again. The skyrocketing interest is from people thinking they can make easy money with it. The actual use of it is overwhelmingly contained to one part of the globe.

They can't make perfect $100 bills. If they were perfect you wouldn't know

North Korea, or the People's Republic of Korea, has more on their plate to worry about than our dollar - like not becoming a single giant sheet of recently re-melted glass, for instance.

If all you've got, dear Blaine, is just another Austrian School lunatic's phobia over sovereign debt, just go play in the cornfields and let the adults worry about the economy.

Some of those articles contain truths. But a lot of it is alarmist and fear mongering,
and they usually are trying to sell you something to make you feel safe and have peace of mind.
My point about the article being old (2009, 9 years old) was just to illustrate that they were talking about the old green big head Franklin 100 and not the new currency.

Oh my gawd! Yet another "wet behind the ears" speech to text user? Kill me now!! Just put a .45 right between my eyes. Speech to text. A mere babe in the woods. I bet I have SHIRTS older than Blaine.

I'll tell you, colleges really DO have to STOP hiring Austrian School faculty. Either that, or keep them teaching fiction in the Literature department.
