Counterfeit 2005 minnesota state quarter with pictures (first post)

    The coins that appear silver (and are not) have been plated. They were hawked by the TV coin selling shows. PMD and face value.
    The nic a date isn't going to make them worth less than face value.
    But it's not worth wasting your time and product on them.
    I have a couple of gold plated South Dakota quarters. (It looks nicer in hand than this dreadful photo.)
    It's the same thing, just a different plating metal.

    I was trying to figure out what the plating metal was, using nic a date would narrow down which metals it could be.

    If it's attracted to a magnet, it's nearly certain that there's a nickel layer. Lots of plating processes start with a layer of nickel because of its corrosion resistance and other properties. Hardly any start with a layer of iron or cobalt, or any other ferromagnetic material.
