Counterfeit 1848 Half Dollar

    So, I think the thing that stood out the most to me was the ridge of the eagle's wings, and the central spine of the leaves and arrows.

    The eagle's wings are almost comical.

    So... this coin does not appear to be a copy of a genuine coin, based on these detail differences. But, the pimples seem to indicate a cast coin.

    Is this an example of a hand-engraved copy die that was then used to cast counterfeits?

    Coin looks off to me as well, but I hadn't taken the time or diligence to try to attribute it relative to the known varieties/die pairings for the date and see how close it actually is to a known genuine one. Maybe a project for my day off this week...

    After looking at it several times, I notice several "buttons" on Liberty's robe, which seem odd. I appreciate these threads
