Counterfeit 1796 Half Dime

    While we are talking Half Dimes (in another thread), I will post pics of my 1796 counterfeit (a guy at Stack's assured me it was). The obverse has areas of the surface that are almost prooflike, but the reverse is a total disaster. No one knows if it's real old or real modern. I acquired the coin about 1980.

    For about ten years, it sure looked nice in my Type Set. o_O

    That is a really cool counterfeit. Never seen that particular design, though I have seen other counterfeit draped bust half dimes.

    I wonder if it's a contempory counterfeit made to fool the merchants back then . Sure doesn't look modern , looks more hand made .
