A type 2 counter-clash occurs when a foreign piece of metal between the dies is struck with part of a die’s design and then a subsequent clash event transfers that design from the foreign object back onto one of the dies in a new position. There are currently 4 known type 2 counter-clashes in the Lincoln cent series.
