I just found this coin in my uncle's attic, and I realized that it's the key date of key dates, the 1893 S. It looks pretty legit to me, but I wanted some expert opinions. Thanks for letting me know if this coin could be the real thing! I weighed the coin and an authentic 1921 D, and they both weigh the same.
Fake. Seriously? Look at 7 o'clock on the obverse. Is that something you have ever seen on a Morgan? And once again the denticles are wrong. Chinese fake all the way.
Does your "near date" supposition conform with the info on VAMWorld? http://ec2-13-58-222-16.us-east-2.compute.amazonaws.com/wiki/1893-S_VAMs Chris
The OP coin is considered normal date position. Near date position would be further left as per this link http://ec2-13-58-222-16.us-east-2.compute.amazonaws.com/wiki/Attribution_101#Date_Positioning
Date position doesn't match up, and after enlarging the image I'm not seeing the rabbit ears or the scratch in the T.
Maybe you should ask your uncle if he bought it from a street vendor in Saigon during the war. What other treasures of his did you uncover?
