I've been a lurker here for a few weeks but after my score about an hour ago I wanted to share. Went into the bank and asked for rolls of pennies. The guy said someone just dropped some off. 15 rolls and I bought 10. I noticed the date 1979 was written on one of the rolls. Checked the outside penny and it matched.
Bought the last 5. Every single one dated on the outside of the roll 1979-1980. I don't know if I will ever get this lucky again!

Cool, I hope you're able to sell them for more than a penny to make it worth it. :)

Hey i'm easy to please. Hanging onto them for the long term. Right now they're worth about 2 cents a piece.

Huh? You paid face value for some copper cents. Why is that exciting?

Thanks! Glad somebody gets it! Searched a $25 box this past week. I'm up to 17 lbs of copper pennies and I think I have found 25 or so wheats so far.

I'd be happy to find rolls like that, only if they are UNC, hard to find a good well struck cent from those years.

Probably not. Probably 80% are zinc inside with copper on the outside. cents before 1982 (and some 82) are all copper. That is what he is talking about

I know. Most cents I find in change are pre 1982.

I went to back once and got the same thing, no coins later than 1979. Some old rolls from a closed bank sitting in a vault they wanted to get rid of. I don't save coppers, I have enough. People buy them on Ebay but nobody else does right now since the law against melting them.
