    I figured he would tell me it weighed what it should weigh, proving there is no missing clad layer, and as Fred said, it is likely plated. So it could weigh even more

    It might, an XRF test would probably penetrate the plating and show a high nickel content.

    Emphasis added... an XRF should penetrate the plastic slab, but other postings say as little as 6 microns penetration of pure gold. Gold plating runs from 2.5 to 40 microns. At the upper end, it would seem the XRF wouldn't penetrate...
