1999 P Dime (THICK) Picked a roll of dimes up at Wachovia Bank. I was unhappy because I was shorted 40 cents. But roll was full! Turns out when I put the dimes side by side with a different dime or roll, they are very thick! Makes me think the Feds are trying to short change customers for a Dime......LOL! Any thoughts on the Dime or has someone else had this problem? I was surprised to see that they are 1999 and this is 2010! Does the Feds hold coins that long before they put it into Curculation? Dimes look new with no marks on them but dime is of by 5 to 10 degrees from back to front. Rim has a deep cut also. In God We trust appears to be much wider then a regular dime also.
Thickness at the rim is a function of the strength of the strike. The better the strike, the thicker the rim. What happened to you illustrates the dangers of counting coins by the height of the stack or length of the roll method. Get some good strikes in there and your roll is short on the count.
Thanks but in the roll there was only $4.60. When I take any dime and put the 1999 P dime side by side with the other dime you can see that the height of the dimes are almost 1/8 of an inch higher. It almost appears there are two dimes stuck together. The dime is thinker then a nickel. The roll of dimes are nothing like any other dime I have seen. In fact I tried to use one in the coke machine and then another and the machine would not take them.

You can pick up a scale fairly cheap on flea Bay with free shipping. That will do the job quite adequately.
I metal detect and that is what many dimes look like after they have been buried in that sand at the beach. The salt water will turn them that color along with the ground contact.
