Check out my hoard of copper cents, there's 40 $50 bags with dates of 77, 78, 79, 80, 81 and 82 that I got for face value. That's approximately 1300 lbs. of copper that has been sitting on top of my safe in my garage for over 20 yrs. coppercents1.JPG coppercents2.JPG

I hope you get them, I've been offered 2 x face for them and turned it down.

I bought these from a guy that worked his whole life at a bank, he also sold me 5 bags of $50 pre-64 silver that's packed away in one of my safes that I've never gone thru either.

If you're saving them for the copper, you'll only get 25% of the price of Grade A copper because they are an alloy. Search them for varieties and errors. I found 228 "Y" clashes in a 1980 bag.

To tell the truth, I'll probably leave them to my son(who is going to get most of my collection).

You could recruit the entire CT membership as a regiment to go through those and keep us all busy for quite some time.

Yeah, seriously though, I've got so many things to go thru that I've bought over the years that I probably will have to wait till I retire to go thru it all (which is only 5yrs away).

I thought my $500 of rolled pre-1979 was a lot, but your hoard is very impressive!!

    Old thread, I see.
    But, that's 2k face. Melts at 2.9k.
I'd be interested to see the plan, and if you can get near that amount.
Also, 20 years? What's that return percentage?

$2000 x the money market interest rate every year, compounded,
even with the 0% the last 8 years, is going to be a return
you will never reach if you are planning on selling this for copper value.
    Which currently is illegal.
