That coin reminds me of a craving of me snd flipper in my younger days and I still think my left side would have been my better side. I have since lost that craving, sentimental you know. Would bring me a world of joy and delight .
congratulations, Steve, and thanks to all for your kindness. I'm also sorry for taking this thread off topic with my post. Debbie also wanted to thank all for your support. You guys rock. John.
The Byzantine gold has appreciated since I purchased mine; however, a bronze follis depicting Christ is very inexpensive. Look on the internet for "coins of the Bible." or J. Christ on Byzantine coins and look around before you buy. Sorry you didn't win the coin.
DANG! I missed the whole thing! Well, that's pretty darn awesome @Sallent and lots of responses! i enjoyed reading them!
If I get it...I will put it up for auction and use the proceeds for a good cause to help the most needed persons.
For those of you submitting entries, the deadline passed and a winner was chosen. However, I'm confident that both I and others here will be hosting giveaways in the future as we've done in the past, so stay tuned.
Maybe I should stage a give away like this, and exclude all who live in Canada or the US. I do get so tired of being discriminated against because of where I choose to live. Some sellers on ebay will not ship to me, so I gladly take my business elsewhere. Some people might need to realize that there really is a big world out there, and it is not located in the middle of New York City.
ahahaha => Hey, don't be bitter, coin_nut (usually they exclude Canada too) ... but look on the bright-side ... => who wants to give away one of their coins anyway?! To me, it's kinda like sayin' => "Hey Buster, you've been a pretty good dog, but I have lots of other dogs, so I'm gonna send you to live with Sallent!!" Just jokes => Coin-on, brother
yeah, that stingy old sallent, wanting to limit his shipping cost and paperwork when he sends somebody a coin they aren't paying a dime for. what's wrong with that guy?
Your choice. I get much more upset about being discriminated against because of what I AM...and had no choice in.
I'm not a seller. I chose to give away a coin free of charge, and one that's not exactly the cheapest or easiest to find, and pay for shipping out of my pocket on top of it. Excuse me if I try to save a few bucks on shipping by putting some reasonable limitations as to where I'll ship this coin that I'm not making a dime on. If you want to give away a coin and bear the cost of shipping it free of charge anywhere in the world, feel free to do so.
"The import or export of antiques or objects of art, whether registered or not, requires permission from the Fine Arts Department." http://www.customs.go.th:10039/wps/...strictions/generalprohibitionsandrestrictions Some countries even restrict or require paperwork for the import/export of old things including coins. Knowing the laws for every country in the world is a strain for commercial sellers but altogether unreasonable for someone who is just trying to do something nice for someone and is repaid with attitude. I only buy coins from a few countries other than my own and the list gets smaller as more start restricting this trade for one reason or another.
There are many Jesus coins from the Byzantine period but most of the bronze ones are either crude or worn to the point that the face is not clear. Gold is not cheap because it is gold. When gold was $35 an ounce people like me could collect gold coins but now, there are few in my range. Because they are thin and often alloyed considerably with silver (therefor termed 'electrum') there are Byzantine Christ coins available for a few hundred $US. Best wishes for finding one that suits your needs.
Don't ask, don't tell...actually I'm nothing special, I just don't believe people shouldn't be held responsible for things out of their control.
