I'll be sure to keep checking my change for the 1943 copper "penny". LOL. In general, I think it's interesting how this coin club is trying to generate interest in the hobby. I think it's funny they deface coinage to do it.
From the article - quote "The're also known as double-die coins." "And a double-die New York quarter could be worth a couple thousand " closed quote Should be Doubled Die not Double
Since its apparently know use expecting today's news organizations to do anything more than run a quick spell-check over they're stories, no, I imagine they don't.
The Sacramento Coin Club did the same thing last year. Not quite the money Houston is talking about though! http://www.sacbee.com/news/local/history/article2597419.html Unfortunately nobody turned it in. It's probably in some Coinstar machine by now. And they called them "pennies" too - so it's all just really depressing!
It must have been a slow news day. Also you guys need to chill with non coin collectors not using the proper terms.
Thanks Hommer I emailed the link to my daughter who lives in that area to be on the look out... now if she does it, that's another story...............
I think you have a better chance of getting struck by lightening twice then finding 1943 copper penny.
My favorite part from the article: "If you find one of their specially marked coins, you could turn into $3,200." Must be exciting to turn into money
Agreed, that's why I used that line from the article. Like all you have to do is be vigilant and one will surely turn up in your change.
