Confederate coins (looking for high quality replicas)

    "Original Confederate Coin" is somewhat hard to define as well...and might not be what you would expect.

    First off, there are two accepted "original" CSA deniminations. The cent and the half dollar. The half dollar was minted in 1861 in New Orleans using a USA 1861 obverse (Seated Liberty) and a CSA Reverse. Recording indicate that only 4 were struck in 1861. All others were struck later on as restrikes long after the CSA was gone.

    It is widely believed that no CSA cents were struck in 1861. The dies were made my a man in Philadelphia but never delivered to the CSA for fear he could be arrested for assisting the enemy. The dies did not surface until 1874 when the "original" coins were struck. Very few were made in 1874.
