    My recent addition, an AE AS of Commodus as Hercules, probably the final type of coin issued by him before getting strangled to death.

    A budget example nonetheless but has nice minty green patina. 8.22g.

    Obv.: L AELIVS AVRELIVS COMMODVS AVG PIVS FELIX, head of Commodus with short beard wearing lion-skin turned left.
    rev.: HER-CVLI / ROM-ANO / AVG-VST divided by upright club, all in laurel-wreath.
    Provenance: Claude Silberstein, Paris, c. 1977
