    Nice post and discussion. Re "was the battle at the Milvian bridge an important event to people of the empire, and specifically to the people of Constantinople?" I think so - or at least Constantine would most likely have wanted it to be remembered by the people. By 330, when the coin was struck, Constantinople was flourishing as Constantine's 'Nova Roma', so his conquest/liberation (wherever you stand on that one) of the old Rome would have been a highly symbolic event.

    Re the battle: the Osprey volume 'Milvian Bridge 312 AD' does a good job of putting shape to the confusing accounts of the battle and the campaign as a whole.
