Just look at the commemoratives with a national theme, like the Columbian Exposition half dollar, 1926 Sesquicentennial half dollar, Pilgrim half dollar, Washington half dollar, Constitution dollar, Statue of Liberty dollar, most Olympic issues-- they tend to lose value after they are issued, and take a long time to recover.
