They brought back the first few maybe 4-5 years ago. Since then the heard has grown and grown. The eastern part of the state is off limits for hunters unless you get drawn for a tag by the state, but if an Elk would go across the county lines, then he can be taken at large, and taged with no extra loop-holes. The state says that there are over 7000 now here in KY. http://fw.ky.gov/deerguide08elk.asp Every year people pay about $10 to get a chance in the drawing--I was thinking that they only gave out 200 tags, but see that it is now up to 400! If we ain't east, I don't know what east is....and the elk are free ranging...heck, they have gone so far as to come to the county I live in, and that is a far peice from the Elk Zone. Maybe here is where they count KY as well.. Speedy
