Hate them. I don't think it's so bad if the mint designs some colo(u)r into the coin (e.g. Royal Canadian Mint) but anything applied after the fact by somebody else is just ruining the coin.:hammer: Just make a token or medal with your design/art.
I think you guys are reading too much into this question...he just asked about ASE's love them or hate them... That's why I said Hate them To the mint colorizing coins...if the mint does it sure I'd go for that. And for buying them I have one but yep I got it for less then melt But or Franklin or someone to do it to a coin and call it a collectible...I'll pass.
I dont like them at all and had trouble getting rid of the few I had purchased in a lot when I began collecting.
Paddy has a good point some of the enameled $5 & $10.00 go for big buck if it the right artist who had done them. but today all there doing is trashing a coin
I thinik your all being a little to harsh about this since those colorized coins serve a real purpose. Every time one is sold, some little kid in China now has money for food. And those little kids are pretty good at painting those coins too. Much better to support the little Chinese artists than thier parents making all those 1875 Silver Morgan Dollars.:goofer:
