It's called Verdigris.

 

I never knew rocks grew on coins.

 

I know it’s called verdigris. l just like using a more scientific name.

 

well technically yes but sometimes if I need to make pigment l scrape the minerals off the penny

 

l meant gently scraped

I said rocks, not minerals so please explain how rocks, like malachite grow on coins.

 

I drop it in olive oil and it expands and pops off.

Kinda like popcorn. But not.

Malachite is a mineral not a rock

 

Looks like a rock to me.

 

But technically it is a rock. Most people call a mineral a rock because it is not crystalline but still it is a common mistake

I have a penny that has weird marks

 

Looks like 3 other coins were on top of that cent and it toned where the coins didn't cover it.
