Found yesterday in a single CWR of Halves: Sorry for the picture quality, they looked good on my phone when I took 'em 8 consecutive date Halves, 1960 - 1967 6 Clad Proof Commemoratives, 86, 87, 91, 92, 94, 95 6 Clad Unc. Commemoratives, 92, 93, 95, 01, 03, 08 1 Silver Unc. Commemorative, 82 ! Silver Proof Commemorative, 93 Obviously brought to the bank by someone unaware or uninterested in the numismatic and silver value, but 22 Halves in a $10 roll? The Commemoratives are all clean, unimpaired specimens, most likely straight from the original packaging into a roll and to ME!
That is very cool, MV! Glad you nabbed them before they made it to a coin wrapping machine and damage!
I think I just got another piece of the same collection!! 3 more rolls from the same bank, 2 1/2 weeks later. Silver: '65 & '66 (probably SMS) '68-D & '69-D Unc. '68-S & '69-S Proof '76-S Unc. Silver Clad: Both P & D Unc. '71, '72, '74 - '78, '86 - '94, '97, '01 - '03, '05 - '07 S Proof '71, '72, '82, '83, '85, '87, '89
WHY DIDN'T I THINK OF THAT!! It's an obviously good idea, other denominations when a collection is being dumped. I guess just I've been too focused on halves to think of it myself. First thing tomorrow morning I'll be there. I started finding this stuff 2 1/2 weeks ago so if there were any other denominations they might have come and gone by now, more commonly requested than halves maybe?
I am happy for your find but kind of sad to think that someone did this. Were they on hard times and didn't know better? Did this happen without the owner knowing like another family member or even a thief?
Usually this means a collector has passed unfortunately and family doesn't know better. Best to be very grateful and give them a good home and hope your kids know better so history does not repeat too much (although this appears to be the Circle of Coin).
I've been back to that bank twice since and spoken to the same teller, explaining that I got what looks like part of a collection, and asked if the customer that brought them in had also brought in other denominations. I was told that the customer was coming in weekly for several weeks and had also brought in some rolls of silver quarters and some silver dollars, all of which was picked up by other customer.s The "dumper" had not been back again as of Friday but.... I'l check back there again soon, it's a semi-regular stop for me anyway.
