Using coinworlds Making the Grade photo book, I have graded the morgan as ms63, the roosie as a 61, The 37 merc as a 64, I do not see complete separation on the bands, the 44s merc I give a 63. So far I seem to get closer using the ana book than coinworlds photo book. The really subjective thing in this is the defintion of distracting contact marks, now some of what I see may be on the slab, or toning that has fooled me into thinking it is contact marks. But since everyone is going by photos we are all handicapped in that area. Another thing to me is that I am not seeing the coin actual size, I could resize the pics but wether that would take away the first impression is hard to say.
Good points.... I can say that resizing the pics to thier original size should help judge luster,,, as I've pointed out earlier, these high resolution and magnified pics can tend to make any beautiful coin into a moonscape with rocks and bolders everywhere.... I think you should probably look at both, close up for details and contact marks, and then smaller to judge luster and eye appeal.... in both cases the truth probably lies in between what you think you see in one compared to the other.... muddy enough ?
1889- MS63 1957- MS67 (These pix leave a lot to be desired.). 1937- MS66 1945-S- MS64 (Micro S) BTW, what happened to NGC, PCGS and ANACS only?
Round 7 recap: Again, good strong participation and competition ! I think we around the halfway point after round 7. Why 2nd tier's ? I have around 2 more rounds worth of them queued up (~8 more within the ~28 total remaining),, I've looked at them, and there are no over the top zingers in the group as there were in the cent round. There are a couple that could have been graded a grade lower, and a couple that could have been graded a grade higher.... but I probably offer the same guidance for the big 3 group also. Anyway, they represent a minority of the graded population and should not affect the rankings significantly,,, If I find any that the group deviates from too far, then we can put it to a vote to remove after they are scored. :loud::loud::loud::loud::loud: :high5: WE HAVE OUR FIRST EXACTA :high5: :loud::loud::loud::loud::loud: ** Some 20 rounds into the grading exercises and WHAM ** Not so easy, but viola >>> CONGRATULATIONS.... ..... MARK_H :high5: SEGS grades: 1899 - MS63 > nice date. A bit dinged obv, outstanding rev. Lots of luster. I was thinking it may have gone 62-63 in a big 3 holder. The group did very well grading this 2nd tier coin. I'd be curious to know what ya'll think it would go as in a big three holder ? NGC grades: 1957 - MS66 > Toners are tough,, what is a contact mark vs. what is a natural break in the toning skin... etc. Really a pretty red, white/gray, and blue coin in hand. 1937 - MS66 > No FB here, close I think, but nope. Toning on this one is very attractive in hand, could not get the colors (blues/reds) in the pics. 1945S - MS65 (micro S) > congrats: Raider / RLM's & Duke for calling out the micro S. Hard coin to grade imo, it's a bit darker in hand, not too attractive, not too ugly, just a nice grade and neat variety. Observations: All other observations pale in comparision to :loud: CONGRATULATIONS MARK_H !! Awards for this set of cents: Best - Mark_h - 0.0000 > really helps the ranking score. HA - Chip - 2.25 > the 57 toner hurt Others: Jello - 1.50 Raider - .25 Bigjpst - .50 Swigh - 1.00 Lehigh - .25 Leadfoot - .75 BQcoins - 1.00 Ldhair - .50 Badthad - .75 RLM's - .50 Duke - .25 On to round 8.............
It was luck and I think the 89 would make a 63 at NGC/PCGS. Of course assuming the bag marks are made worse by the pictures - usually are with morgans.
