The richest person in the entire world, is the poorest of everyone without someone they can call a true friend.

It's not about how much money one has, or personal assets, or prized possessions that makes one rich.

LOL or cry, I cannot decide. I just woke up and was hoping this thread was a bad dream........guess not

Somewhere on this site there is a pic of a few of us playing poker with our lizard glasses on, everyone from millionaire to month to month college students. We had a blast that night, and not once did we discuss incomes, go figure. We sure did have fun tho.....

Later gang, off to my day job

    "Under Attack"?

Interesting topic, and in these days where any given website that could be a victim of hack attack, I would say that my hat is off to anyone who can succeed in addressing potential site fraud issues.

Some examples: FactNet, a cult education site, was a victim of "gay porn" site spam recently, they have wealthy enemies. Dozens of links to the most hideous forms of this stuff. Quatloos.com, an anti-fraud site, was recently the victim of site member attack. It is frequented by lawyers, judges and other government-friendly personel.

I don't have a whole lot of time to post here much anymore. A lot of members here by now have probably never seen me post at all. I really don't have the time to post now, but I couldn't let this go by.

One would have to be blind or unable to read English to not be aware for whatever reason some definitely have a larger coin budget than others. It may be something like Lehigh pointed-out with the kid thing (I have 3 and I think they each eat Lehigh's $10,000 budget), it could be someone also has a boat they're paying for, they aren't good at managing their money, or many different reasons as to what the "coin budget" is.

I'm a little sensitve to things like this when I read them because of my being retired military. Only if you are also retired military would you understand how tired you get of hearing how lucky one is to have the benefits and retirement. Also, it usually comes up if I would get them some cigarettes or groceries the next time I go to the Commissary. If they keep going on and on, or if I'm in a bad mood, I ask them if they were in the military. If they tell me "yes" I tell them they should have stayed in. If they weren't I tell tem they should have joined up. I tell you luck had nothing to do with any of this.

Someone, I think Jack, talk about opportunity. This could be a whole subject its self , but just let me say this. Many people expect an "opportunity" to fall in their lap. This rarely happens, one has to go out and grab the opportunity. Opportunity usually entails a committment and dedication to see it through.

I'll pick on Paul here some. Does he buy more expensive coins than I do? Yes, he certainly does, and I think it is great for him. A big part of this is because I like the guy, and the other is I'm happy with myself and where I am in life. I'll go out on limb here and say noone enjoys coin collecting more than me. But, my family, home, and vacationing come first. I can also tell you I am just as proud of my collection as he is of his, and that is the way it should be.

Go to a sports bar on any important game night. I guaremtee you there will be a vast variety of careers, incomes, and education levels present. That is life and it is part of the American way. When I read something like this I can't help but think the negative aspect comes from one not happy with self. If you are not, go grab an opportunity and change it.

    Agreed.

I'm out of this thread now as I feel that you sir have a bitter feeling about life and your choices that you made. It's not too late to change your attitude and turn things around probably.
Make some different decisions in your life. If you smoke or drink...stop it and save that money for coins!! Then you'd have a much nicer collection I assure you :D

I've been at the top- living in a penthouse apartment with a very lucrative business, very expensive clothes etc. and I've been at the bottom, living in a one room suite when the bottom dropped out and I lost everything. That has happened to me twice. Once when the boom ended in the eighties and once when I was a victim of arson and had no insurance. I could have chosen to play the blame-game and make everyone pay for my losses but instead I chose to take strides to improve my situation. I began washing dishes in a restaurant to make a living and while there I absorbed all I could about cooking techniques. Eventually, I became a cook in the high-end restaurant and was considered an equal to my peers who were all well trained. Today, I'm a Chef in a small restaurant. My income allows me the freedom to explore my hobbies and my art and I have accumulated enough savings over the last four years to slip into semi-retirement. I, certainly am not wealthy but I am content and at peace of mind. I have only my living expenses to worry about. Everything I have, is bought and paid for.

In my friends' eyes, I'm considered an over-night success but it's taken me twenty years to do it.

It all depends on what choices we make that determines our life paths.

About all I can say is that those of us on fixed incomes have it made. No worry about job loss, demotions, reduction of retirement benefits, etc. Even if your income is quite modest, most are able to make expenses and have a tiny bit left. Like coin lover said, you can buy a boat, go to concerts, golf, bowl, smoke, whatever and spend your money. Some buy coins on a budget. Some sell a few to buy a few. Irregardless, the passion is finding the treasure. It's a continuous hunt, and we all are consumed by the fever. For myself, it's better to have junk that I can display and show around, than to own a valuable item stored in a vault. But to each his own. Good Hunting !

i gotta disagree with you there. ever heard of the IRS? they demand that you justify how much money you earn. lol. :goofer:

as far as how much money anyone makes that gets on here... who cares?? this site is about knowledge, and sharing that knowledge, not how much money one makes.

I think that society today is obsessed with getting rich. I could find you 300,000 ;) different get rich schemes. People have lost the concept of opportunity, hard work, and reward. I know several people who are always bellyaching about how life is so hard and how life hates them...and they complain about rich people but these are the same people who refuse to try to better themselves. I have a cousin who does nothing but sit around, play video games, get tattoos, and drink beer. We are the same age and he now has 2 children which he has government assistance to raise because he can't seem to keep a job longer then a month. If these people took all the effort and energy that they spent complaining about their problems and spent it being productive they might find that they end up in a different situation. Opportunities come in all shapes and sizes.

In my younger days, after Vietnam, a lot of my friends were into smoking grass. I was buying a home, paying cash for a brand new work truck and keeping my wife at home to raise our kids. What they would spend on getting high would buy our groceries. I never partied, not so much for moral reasons, but that I had other priorities. That's they way it is with all coin collectors, we spend a lot of new money for a little old money. But at the end of the day, we have something in our hands. Luck is always a factor. Not so much good luck as avoidance of bad luck. Illness, accident, etc. can wipe you out financially in an instant. But coin collectors always come back. Instead of Eagles, we amass Cents, but we are searching and saving and trading. It's a passion without parallel. IMHO
