I would call myself a vest pocket guy...I do 2-3K a month on the Bay and a cpl more in coinshows....But, I have a day job. I am basically a collector wheelin deelin to upgrade my sets, I am not a coin dealer. When I retire in a cpl years, I will make the fulltime move.

Oh, and let me say that I prefer to have people mouthing off and bickering minutia than constantly getting moderators to nix things acting like your parents...unless it becomes out right abusive. A few sarcastic comments, a few know it alls, highly opinionated posts, they are simply a part of the great thing called the internet and humanity. I have found most of the moderators to be as opinionated and flawed as most of the posters...but who is to say they shouldn't be able to express strong opinions. Often those opinions are wrong or biased, uninformed...but moderators are human like us all. :)

Sorry, your clues don't do it for me. I haven't seen "moderators sternly correcting" posters for their on-topic opinions on the PCGS forum and I do quite a bit of reading there. If it happens frequently, you should be able to give a few examples quite easily. My hunch is that it doesn't and that therefore, you can't.

Apparently, it doesn't to you, but it does to me. I think if a you are going to make a statement like you did that you should be able and willing to back it up. It is of course, your choice, whether to do so or not, and I won't ask a third time.

Maybe we should take this to PMs or E-Mail if you feel it needs to be discussed further. I've followed the MODERATOR's instructions and feel comfortable leaving it there...

wow looks like this is going to be another thread with debates. i would like to think of a forum as a place where every member is just giving an opinion we can choose to agree or disagree as we fit. I think its abig positive that we all love coins so much that we spend large amounts of time here but every positive thing can have a side effect and thats what we are seeing here

I have been reading these forums for well over a year and the only reason i waited so long to sign up for them is becuase there is to much drama.

But with that small statement. I am going to now do what i have done here for a long time. Just sit back and read.

No need for all the drama if you ask me. This is a coin talk forum.

Thanks, I had misunderstood and thought he was speaking of the PCGS forum. That said, I must still respectfully disagree with him.:)

Well Mark, since you appear to be on the fast track to Moderatorship (secondary occupations are everything here) all I can say is. "I respectively don't care whether you agree with me or not... :)"

I think I have to agree with you Bone digger, hence one of the reasons I have been spending less and less time here. While I still find great info, see great pics and hear great stories, it seems as if there are certain clicks that are a step above. Do I h ave definitive proof? no, nor will I expend the energy to look for it. It is just my opinion.

I still find it funny that a thread was locked for the expression of what one would like to see in their government. Supported no candidtate by name or idea, was actually the ramblings of someone too young to be prez and was actually the combined opinions have seveal dozen people here, a BB board and in a hospital.

    Hi my name is clembo

....and I h ave a confession to make.

This is the FIRST forum I've ever participated in.

I have never been in chat rooms as the pace is too fast and I don't like typing things like CU later. CU is Crisp Uncirculated to me.

Now, as many of you may have noticed I post a lot. Why? - because I like it here. Do I like everything? NO that would be way boring but I am free to pass these things up.
Have I been involved in "heated" discussions? Yes, I like those actually but if I choose I can pass on them.

Have I been blasted or blasted anyone? Yes, I can dish it out and take it too.

Would I say what I say here to your face? In a heartbeat - that's how I work and would expect the same from you.

Are there people here that are always right? Yes, - just ask them but I don't agree so they're wrong.

I have had "disagreements" with a few here, especially when I first started. Honestly think a few were just "testing" me as they have ohers. Well, I can give it back so now I actually agree with them on many points. Not because they changed me but because the "experiment" failed.

Do I "joke" a lot? Yes, Why? - because I've always been that way. I see it in threads as a sign of insecurity, bedwetting whatever. What it really tells me is that the author of that statement is probably much more insecure than myself. I like to have fun and we only live once as far as I'm concerned.

Now as for the Mods. As I stated this is the first forum I have ever been on. They DID seem a bit, "well I know everthing" at first and still do at times but I have learned to respect them as long as I feel they have some respect for me. Respect is NOT commanded it is EARNED.

    Finally,

There are some members that are going to beyond know it all status. That's going to happen and I don't care what their "pedigree" is. They are no better than me or you or anyone else in the greater scheme of things. I respect knowledge but not a "better than you are" attitude.

What makes the forum work is opinions and the freedom to express same. Some may seem ridiculous but to the poster they make sense. Makes it interesting. I'll rip a poster in a heartbeat if I think it's totally wrong and have had it done to me. Big deal - I get over it.

    Now for Bonedigger.

I like you Ben. Like your threads and posts - always good in my opinion. Don't know what's on your mind or should I say your inner mind?

Just hoping you don't go on hiatus or leave forever. That is up to you of course.

I haven't noticed a whole lot more of it lately than there was when I joined. Maybe a little bit. You also have to realize that while typing it is alot easier for someone to misunderstand what your saying than when your in person. A few weeks ago I politely corrected some wrong information that someone posted, and the guy got really mad at me because he thought I was trying to make him look stupid. I thought I was helping the guy out. oops

This board may have some problems, but all forum boards do to some extent. But I will say though that imho, this board is better than the pcgs board. I don't care for the PCGS board. Too many rich people posts braging about their recent 5000 dollar coin purchase. Not enough real folks posts there like we have here.

i can see how things excalate as many have passionate feelings about what they are writing (having lots of $ and time invested in a hobby can do that to people). also, there are many times you can write something not intending to be rude or belittle someone, but it comes out that way due to a writing style. unfortunately, much of our communication is thru body language, ect.. that never transfers due to the mode of communication. i will also agree that some feel they are experts and can never be wrong (it is that way on all forums, and well, just about any hobby). i try to post when i feel i have something to add to the discussion, but i am far from being an organized writer. i often know what i wish to say, but either leave too little info, or wander away off tangent, trying to make a point.
i like to hear all opinions as long as you do not intentionally insult the individual. once again, a key word is opinion. we all have them due to our life experiences. the point of the forum is discussion and learning. be polite, and if an individual is asking for help or commentary, help them learn.
having been in the martial arts for 37 yrs, and draw many analogies from it. you can be an expert in one area, yet be a beginner in another. leave your ego at the door. be willing to learn and admit you still have much to learn. also...treat other people as you want to be treated.
i like this forum. i read several others, but this is about the only one i post on. i still find it mild compared to some at the cu u.s coin forum site. i have little to offer, much to learn, and feel that this is still the best forum. i get aggravated at times when i feel someone is "correcting" me, or is trying to invalidate my opinion, but try to not take it too personally.
every member has a place for an opinion here. it is also ok if someone disagrees with you. it happens all the time w/ grading, dipped or cleaned coins, tpg's vs tpg's vs. raw, ect. all these topics hit a nerve.and probably always will in this hobby. just please remember that we are all here to share opinions, news, coin pics, collection advice, dealer advice, and accumulated knowledge. coin collecting is something all here share together....so, i think we can "all just get along".
it really turned into a good topic Ben. i for one, value your opinions, as well as other members and moderators who post here. you all have much to share, we just need to think of how we come across at times to the other person. i want to see this forum grow and be a place where all the members can feel welcome and free to seek or share advice no matter what their skill level may be.
my very best wishes to everyone on this forum...that includes posters, moderators, and all the silent members in the background........sincerely.......steve

Now why would you say that Bone ? Because he disagrees with you ? Hardly the case. Besides, we don't need any more right now.

Really ?? I'm confused then - I'm a construction superintendent, Speedy shovels snow, cuts grass and runs a web site company, Jody drives a truck, Peter runs a web site company, De Orc is disabled. That only leaves 2, Cave Troll and zaneman - and yes both of them work for Heriatge.

So I guess that 2 out 7 with occupations in the hobby means you have to have a job in the hobby or you can't be a mod here. As I said - I'm confused.
