Thanks for the kind words guys, but you should realize that there are probably as many who skip over my comments as there are those who read them. Most of you probably don't realize it, I even wonder at times if anyone does, but whenever I see comments like that it kind of makes me uncomfortable. I mean, I'm nobody, I'm no expert on anything except construction. I make more than my share of mistakes. All I try to do is offer honest opinions (ones I believe in), and share what knowledge I have. I always speak the truth, or at least what I believe to be the truth. And I try to help anyone and everyone who ask for it. And I also learn, every single day. And I learn from all of you - every single one. Yes I will admit that when some people post I pay particular attention. But I read every post. Some I may skim through quickly, others I may spend some time on and even read them 2 or 3 times. And sometimes I even go back and read old posts. It's quite fun to me and it teaches me how people change. Over the years that I have been here I have watched some go from beginners to advanced collectors. Watched others go from somebody never heard of to being respected and recognized names in the hobby. The way people change over time is amazing. I can tell you this, there are many mentors on Coin Talk. Some of them don't even realize that they are. The key to being a mentor is sharing knowledge. And it is not uncommon for the teacher to learn from the student.
I will tell you I look forward to your comments. Some of your posts that I am very interested in I read two or three times. I think it is easy to see to anyone new here that you are very respected. Salutes to you my good man!!
Be that as it may, your one of the handful of people I actually trust in any area of interest or importance. I trust my Doctor for medicine. I trust Rick Moen with my computers, Billy Donahue with programming, Richard Stallman with my software, Mona Shah with my drug information, Rudy Guilliani with my government, my Grandmother with my family and you with my coins. just saying... Whether I agree with you or not, I know that I have to study your opinion on any kind of coin grading or authenticity before I make my own opinion. Ruben
I don't always agree with Dougs assessment of a coin but I certainly respect his judgment and knowledge of coins. Of course there are many others here at CT who impart their vast knowledge of coins for all to enjoy and learn from. That is why this is the best Coin Talk Forum on the INTERNET. Thanks Peter. Bruce Bruce
I try to give an educated guess on some error coin posts, and I am always waiting in anticipation for Mike D. to post his assessment. Makes me feel good when we agree on something, I feel validated somewhat. Also, as I previously posted, GD is God.
i can honestly say that this is not your best post (except for the part of teacher learning from student ). IMHO if there was ever a king of coins you are it. i dont think you have anny idea on how much you know about coins its not great its legendry. although we have our differences . people may not agree with my opinion but its mine
there is no need to be scared. sign up for protection here. i am the GD tamer no one here argues with him more than i do. hell ill even beat him up in the mods versus members contest for you.
I completely agree. I try to read as many threads as I can in the areas that interest me the most. But I do check threads first that certain people start and have posted to last when I notice. That said, there are more than a handfull of names that catch my eye. It is great to have so many knowledgable people here, from Lincolns to silver dollars, from paper money to ancients and everything in between. My hats off to every one that is so passionate about the hobby and takes the time to share.
Well, cant say a mentor but there are a lot of really smart, knowledgable people here who spend their free time helping people and probably dont get credit and called out for it. So I will take this opportunity to list some people who I either enjoy reading posts from or who have been a big help to me: chrisild has been invaluable with german translation and helping understand obscure references for my notgeld collection Clive is one of the nicest people I know and has helped me with my hammered english collection Ardatirion, I will always read his posts as he post nice coins that interest me. DeOrc, just a class act, I respect him and how he handles himself, just a nice guy. Scottishmoney posts great coins and bills and knows a lot Bart is a fountain of infomation and almost always closes the case AnemicOak, great collection and a real class act, like DeOrc I just admire the way he handles himself, he isnt about the bickering gxseries...another fountain of info Silvereagle82, I look forward to what coin he will post next to remind me my own collection is crap in comparison Billzac for obvious reason and Tom Maringer for his help with minting my coins. Other who I just enjoy reading or seeing what they are posting next or just seem to be great people are acanthite, handsome toad, stainless, KidRomeo, AdamL, Pocket change, kiyardo, snaz, Phonix21, randygeki, tcore, clembo, USS656....GD but I think he has had enough of the sychophant treatment and doesnt need my contribution but he is obviously a guy who cares about coins. Well...I am sure I miss some people who have made a big impression on me and if so I apologize, problem with something like this is you always miss an obvious one..thanks to you all you come here and contribute.
Yea and your goal was to reach 5000 post I wonder why , and three quarters of them make no sense and i don't mean statehood quarters either. Jazzcoins Joe
Absolutly. Only get on cointalk for a limited time a day or every other day or so can not read eveything, as much I would like too. BTY why do you think so many have responded to your post:goof:.
Great thread viper! I agree. There's a number of people that make this forum tick. In no particular order, I'm always very interested to hear what Lehigh, Arizona Jack, RLM, rzage, Clembo, jaceravone, Pocket change, snaz and GD have to say. Just to name a few. These guys are the definition of coin collectors to me. I came out of coin collecting hibernation 9 months ago and I was very uneducated. Between spending time reading books, magazines, online articles and the interaction I've had here, I feel like I've come a long ways. To the point where occasionally, I may even be able to help a beginner out. I hope this forum continues to prosper as it has. I believe this is probably a top 5 forum on the net if not the best. A forum's members make the forum. Period.
