When I log onto CT the farthest thing from my mind is "seriousness". If I wanted more of that I would have stayed at work! To me this is a hobby I love that brings numismatics and history together. It's fun and as for me at least I enjoy keeping it that way. When I hit the like button, I'm telling someone I appreciate you're showing me your treasure. I enjoy showing my coins to other people who appreciate them especially since no one in my circle has any interest in my coins or artifacts. And certainly, not least, I have learned so much about this hobby through this "informal" forum through the years. So , continue to post your coins people be they of Gordian III or Caligula, or anyone else.

    John Skelton Morgan man!

I've learned so much about coins here that I can't always get from books. Along with the people here, I also find it to be a great community, and don't see a need to visit any other forum.

I like getting a daily email in digest form so I can pick those threads that interest me. Even though I don't collect ancients, it's nice to know they are around to help me when I need it. This is a truly diverse culture that I think can meet the needs of everyone.

To be entirely fair to the person at Forvm who made the "not serious" comment in the first place, I posted for the first time ever over there (although I've been a member for some years), and pushed hard to explain why his comment was unfair, and persuade him that he should withdraw it and apologize. I kept emphasizing, among other things, that so many people post in both venues that it makes no sense to think that the same people are "serious" and scholarly at Forvm but that when they post here they're not serious and post only to accumulate "likes." (I didn't bother with the argument that there's nothing wrong with "show and tell" or likes, because I wanted to meet him on his own terms.)

In the end, he did backtrack:

"Thanks for all who expressed their diverse views on this subject, and again, I am sorry my overly simplistic and blunt comments caused any chagrin for coin collectors that should otherwise be enjoying a hobby (or profession for some) that we hold in common."

I think that's the best I could hope for, and I'm happy to let things rest there. Sometimes, arguing like a lawyer can actually work.

I deal with a lot of serious stuff on a daily basis at work. I come here to relax, unwind, and learn more about my chosen hobby.
The people here on CT, especially the Ancients forum, are top-notch and have been generous with their knowledge, friendship, and even coins.
I love hopping on here and learning something new or seeing something I've never seen before. Heck, I love the show-and-tells and just seeing others' coins. I don't have anyone to share with in real life besides my kids so it's great to come on here and share with others as well.

A little humor is a tool of encouragement meant to enlighten the load. CT forum offers minds of knowledge and experience to those with the same to offer in return. Come in from the cold, its warm in here! Thanks everyone.

I found CT a while back purely by accident. I did a dumb thing. I googled "COIN FORUMS" and CT showed bup. Out of curiosity, I opened CT up and it was like watch a rose bloom. It came to be a very likeable place sit and follow along on the ride. Like rollercoasters, there are ups and downs and all arounds and when it's over, you say, "That was fun, let's do it again, and again, and again.
I try to stay within the boundaries set forth by the "Monitor", but one time, my mouth started working before my brain was in gear. (Taken from my mother's teaching me to do things the "right" way.
I do want to say, this is one of the better forums on the web. I learn something every time I open it up and read and THINK! Thank you, my brothers and sisters.

Apparently @dougsmit thought I intended offence and I just wanted to state that I didn't

Yay! I guess my membership went through, I just didn't receive any notification.
Coinage of Nero's my favorite, although he only makes up a small part of my collection (Nero Sestertii are pretty expensive). Nero Lugdunum mint is my favorite of the lot. Coins 30+mm. are my preference.

    And welcome to CT!
I'd love it if you made a thread showing some of your Nero coinage!
Funny enough, I just received this Lugdunum Nero yesterday!
At 28.3 grs is just under your specification but is probably one of the most recently unearthed Nero As from Lugdunum on the scene (it is MUCH greener in hand, sellers pics):

Thank you for the warm welcome. Mine are nothing special; this is probably the nicest one. I picked it up when coins were cheaper.

    36mm 24.4g Lugdunum.

By high end standards, my collection is only so-so.

P.S. How do I get pictures to show on the page?

    Ummm, that portrait is brilliant!:artist::cigar:
You can create your own thread back on the main page by looking in the top right corner for and selecting "create thread".
To show pictures you will load the pictures as you did and then before posting select "full image" in the bottom right corner:

Rome - Should we explain when we post something potentially educational or just wait for a string of 'nice coin' comments? (Serious, if rhetorical, question) - Welcome to CT.

I almost fell out of my chair when I saw the "Full Picture." Thanks. It helps. I just put my 15 year dog down at the Vet and I needed something to lift me up.

I found this forum through that particular thread on another forum. It actually unintentionally served as a form of advertising.

While I still like both forums; both have particular strong points, the paucity of traffic on Forum kind of drove me away.

I actually like the mood chooser and emojis, too.

Furthermore, I found the fascinating podcast, The History of Byzantium through here. The History of Rome is okay, but HOB is next level. It's so in depth!

I'm back to collecting the 'slag heaps', as my mom calls them, for a while. Save for the Alexian era coins, my affinity for these kind of wanes with Leo's XXX/NNN issues. My 'slag heap' bucket list; to get a large follis of Constantine IV.

Although I definitely have my likes (example; big coins) and specialities, I'm an ancient coin omnivore. If something catches my eye, I'll get it.
