It doesn't really fit the topic, but here's my other recent Portuguese India purchase:
    Portuguese India 1959 60 Centavos

The monetary system at the time had a strange series of denominations:
    10-30-60 centavos and 1-3-6 escudos.
I hadn't realized that Portugal retained its Indian colonies until 1961, well after India's 1948 independence from the UK. They were taken from Portugal by force.

    I don't think there were any shots fired, just the Indians got tired of Portugal dragging their feet so they marched a big gang of soldiers into Goa and the Portygees got the idea pretty quickly. I have a lot of the PT-IN coins, let me share a few here. 1901 PT-IN 1-2 t.jpg 1901 PT-IN 1-4 t.jpg 1901 PT-IN 1-8 t.jpg 1903 PT-IN 1-2 t.jpg 1903 PT-IN 1-4 t.jpg 1903 PT-IN 1-8 t.jpg 1903 PT-IN 1-12 t.jpg

Lovely collection, thanks for sharing! Unfortunately, it was not a bloodless conflict, with about 50 killed combined for the two sides. Still, compared to the tragedies during the Partition, I guess it was pretty small-scale.

Anyway, not to bog things down with my opinions on war and peace, here's another recent fractional purchase: Muscat and Oman 1/4 Anna 1315 AH = 1898.
Under $3 and not in such bad condition. This is why I love buying coins in person. Buy something like this online and I wind up paying more in shipping than the coin is worth. And there are so many lovely words coins from the 1800s for under $5.

I stand corrected on the India thing. Here is another of those 1/4 anna AH1315. Not sure if that is a die crack or a cat hair.
